I am a British/New Zealand painter and I have an affinity with a number of countries. The themes of my paintings are not rooted in one place, they are made from memory, after observing a landscape, trees, the effects of light on the sea or skies. I use photographs taken by myself and sketch outside as reference manipulating the paint to form textures and abstract forms. After a trip to Mount Taranaki, NZ with my Mother in 2020 I heard more about my Maori Great-Grandmother who was from the Te Ati Awa tribe. I have great respect for the ‘Maori World View’ which involves understanding the close connection between people and nature and seeing people as part of the natural world, as protectors of the life force of the forests, rivers, lakes and mountains under their care. I am reading about the symbols and meanings in Maori art forms and Koru, being the motif frequently used representing the growth of a new fern frond, as the tightly wound spiral unravels into a fully formed leaf. It is believed to represent survival and existence. I have been exploring this idea in my paintings of the native bush and trees in the UK. I have recently been reading about Maori Art , Aboriginal Art, Van Gogh, O’keeffe, and Hockney as reference.

Education: BA Honours Visual Studies/German, Oxford Brookes University. After giving up working in Export Sales and Publishing, I worked as a German and Dutch speaking interpreter for the NHS. After a period of volunteering as a Diversional Therapist at the Shakespeare Hospice and after being a contestant on Sky Arts ” Landscape Artist of the Year”, I was motivated to paint seriously again myself.

Contact me if you would like to commission a painting, if you would like any further information or would like to buy any of the paintings on my website. I would be very happy to help you.
